Winter camps

The Winter Camp Programme is under review. The below camps could change for some year levels in 2015.

Year 7 - Borland Lodge Camp 
(Indicative cost $160)

Base camp for the Year 7s is Borland Lodge, Lake Monowai. During the week the students participate in a wide range of activities both around camp and in the surrounding  area. A highlight most years is a trip to Gemstone Beach. Activities include: tramping, team-building, self-esteem courses, climbing, caving and environmental studies.

Year 8 - Queenstown Ski Camp 
(Indicative cost $275)

This busy week starts with a day trip to Doubtful Sound. Students visit the Manapouri Power Station before travelling over Wilmot Pass to Doutbful Sound where they explore the Sound by boat. They are then off to Queenstown for a few days where they  get to go skiing/snowboarding, ice skating, up the gondolas to luge back down and there is always the odd hour to hit the shops!

Year 9/10 - Around Te Anau

The Year 9 & 10 students remain at school during camp week and have an exciting programme prepared for them. 

Year 9 have a "kiwiana" focused week where they look at aspects of NZ culture including food, music and art.

Year 10 have an environmental week where they learn about enviornmental sustainability, go tramping on a local track, catch electric eels and finish the week with an abseiling experience in Manapouri.

Year 11 - Marae Visit & Ranger for a Day
(Indicative cost - no charge)

The Board covers the costs involved with the overnight Marae Visit. The students travel to the Marae at Bluff where they are immersed in Maori Culture. The students also get the opportunity to head out into the field with DOC being a Ranger for the day.

Year 12 - Snow Skills 
(Indicative cost $330)

This unique camp heads to the Pisa Range (Wanaka) –  for the students to learn Nordic Skiing. A highlight on this camp is to build and sleep in a snow cave if there has been enough snow and students are game enough! Students also have a day in Queenstown rock climbing on the way up to Wanaka.

Year 13 - Life Skills
(Indicative cost $50)

This week gives students the opportunity to take an in depth look at two amazing programmes.  Turning Point Bridge and Lessons for Life After School.
